No. 20 Men’s Tennis Extends Win Streak To Six Matches
March 02, 2025 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton men's tennis team moved into the top 20 teams as ranked by the ITA this week and used that as motivation coming into the weekend. After picking up two wins on Friday, The Tigers added another pair of victories on Sunday.
"It was a really good weekend for us to pick up four quality wins," head coach Billy Pate said. "In the early match versus Tulsa I felt we were poised, executed well and finished the match with confidence. Tulsa has a very solid group top to bottom and we knew it would take a focused effort. We need to take a few days to recover and get completely healthy. We have a few days to reset and prepare for our spring break trip and will look forward to our next match at Pacific next Sunday."
In the morning, the squad defeated No. 46 Tulsa by a score of 4-1. Princeton won the doubles point thanks to wins from Ellis Short and Fnu Nidunjianzan at the No. 2 spot and Evan Wen and Aleksandar Mitric at No. 3.
Milan Markovits earned the first singles win of the day in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Wen followed suit with a win of his own 6-4, 6-4. Nidunjianzan was able to clinch the match for Princeton in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
The second match of the day pitted Princeton against Saint Joseph's. The Tigers kept the party going with a 7-0 sweep to wrap up the weekend. Matthew Bosancic and Aidan Mahoney teamed up to secure the first doubles win for Princeton before Evan Wen and Filippos Astreinidis finished it off.
Bosancic and Astreinidis both earned their first singles victories of the spring season in the sweep of Saint Joseph's.
The Tigers will face Pacific to kick off their spring break trip before heading to the UTR Sports Collegiate Championships at the BNP in Indian Wells, Calif.
