No. 17 Men’s Tennis Battles Back In Victory Over No. 59 Pacific For Pate’s 200th Win
March 09, 2025 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J.- The No. 17 Princeton men's tennis team showed true grit in its victory over No. 59 Pacific. After dropping the doubles point, Princeton fought back to win four of the six singles to clinch the match 4-3.
"In many ways we were fortunate to get the win today," head coach Billy Pate said. "Pacific played very well on their home courts. We didn't have the type of intensity and discipline in doubles and that's something I'm confident we'll be better with in our next outing Saturday at Indian Wells. We did a good job of jumping out to leads in singles though Pacific rallied and made it tough for us to get the fourth point. Credit to Ellis for battling back in the third and clinching the match. I know it was special for him playing at a facility named for his mom as she was a great player at Pacific. We'll get to work this week and be ready for a great atmosphere Saturday versus Arizona State."
Evan Wen started the rally with a win in straight sets before Fnu Nidunjianzan and Paul Inchauspe followed suit.
Pacific picked up another win to push the match score to 3-2. Ellis Short dug in on Court 3. With the first two sets ending in scores of 7-5, 0-6, Short worked his way to a 6-4 win to clinch the match.
The win marked head coach Billy Pate's 200th win as the head coach of the Princeton men's tennis team and extended the squad's win streak to seven consecutive matches.
