Men’s Tennis Picks Up Win Versus Buffalo, Falls To No. 19 NC State
February 07, 2025 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton men's tennis team was back in town for its long awaited home opener. The Tigers split the day with a win over the Buffalo Bulls, but later fell to the No. 19 NC State Wolfpack.
In the first match of the day, Princeton earned the doubles points thanks to wins from Filippos Astreinidis and Paul Inchauspe along with Fnu Nidunjianzan and Ellis Short.
In singles, the Tigers were dominant, picking up wins on five of six courts. Milan Markovits, Fnu Nidunjianzan, and Ellis Short picked up wins in straight sets with Short's victory clinching the match for Princeton.
Landon Ardila fought back after dropping his first set and won 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Meecah Bigun battled to a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 win to close out the win over Buffalo in style with a final score of 6-1.
In the second match of the day pitted the Tigers against their second ranked opponent in which Princeton fell to NC State 4-1.
Aleksandar Mitric picked up the lone win for the Tigers and did so in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.
"We had plenty of opportunities in both singles and doubles and we simply need to do a better job of capitalizing," head coach Billy Pate said. "We are putting ourselves in really good situations and once we manage the momentum a bit better we will turn matches like these. NCSU is a very strong and seasoned team and we just didn't have room for missed opportunities tonight. However, we are very close to where we want to be and we are looking forward to growing from this and continuing our progress. I'm pleased we took care of business earlier in the day against a much improved Buffalo team. They challenged us in many spots and it was good to see us stay solid throughout that match. We are looking forward to the ECAC next weekend at Penn and will have a good week of practice in preparation."
