March 13, 2025 | Softball
South Dakota State and host Missouri outscored the Princeton softball team on Thursday in the Show Me State as the Jackrabbits won Princeton's event opener 8-5 before host Missouri won the nightcap 7-4.
Princeton will wrap its spring trip with two games on Friday, first at 11 a.m. ET against Quinnipiac (live scoring) and then against Michigan (live scoring) at 1:30 p.m. ET.
South Dakota State 8, Princeton 5
South Dakota State scored twice in the first inning, and despite the Tigers chipping away with runs in the second and third inning before a three-run sixth, the Jackrabbits never trailed the rest of the way in an 8-5 win.
Two hits and a sacrifice fly led to South Dakota State's two first-inning runs before Princeton got back-to-back singles from Lauren Sablone and Allison Ha before an RBI groundout from Julia Dumais to pull the Tigers within 2-1 in the second inning. Each team traded a run in the third, with a solo homer putting SDSU up 3-1 before Princeton got a Graciela Dominguez base hit, a walk to Sablone and a Ha base hit before an Allie Goodwin sacrifice fly made it 3-2.
SDSU pushed the lead to 5-2 in the fifth on two hits, an error and a walk before Princeton tied it in the sixth on an Abby Hornberger three-run home run that followed hits by Goodwin and Dumais to lead off the inning. In the seventh, a base hit and three doubles led to three Jackrabbit runs and an 8-5 lead.
Missouri 7, Princeton 4
Julia Dumais hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Sonia Zhang followed three batters later with a run-scoring single to give Princeton a two-run lead, but host Missouri rallied for a 7-4 win.
Following two shutout innings from Brielle Wright that saw Missouri get just two singles, Missouri broke through with two runs in the third on two hits and a sacrifice fly.Â
Princeton went ahead 4-2 with the inning that saw the three-run Dumais homer after singles by Sablone and Ha and the RBI single from Zhang after Hornberger followed Dumais' homer with a double. Missouri got one run back in the bottom of the fourth with a base hit and an RBI double, and it was 4-3 Princeton into the fifth.
Missouri tied it in that fifth inning on a solo homer and took the lead on a three-run homer in the sixth.
