Softball Team Splits Final Day in Missouri
March 14, 2025 | Softball
The final day in Missouri for the Princeton softball team saw a 9-2 win over Quinnipiac and an 8-4 loss to Michigan as the Tigers wrapped up their spring trip with their final games before the Ivy League season begins and the program opens Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field on March 22 with a visit from Harvard.
Princeton 9, Quinnipiac 2
Princeton got three runs in the top of the second inning and led the rest of the way in a 9-2 win over Quinnipiac.
Julia Dumais led off the second inning with a base hit before an error allowed Allie Goodwin to reach. Braeden Hale drove in Dumais with a base hit just before Sonia Zhang doubled home both Hale and Goodwin for a 3-0 lead.
Quinnipiac got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on two walks and two hits, but that's all the Bobcats got the rest of the way against winner Meghan Harrington and reliever Keala Hollenkamp, who earned her first career save in allowing just a hit and a walk with three strikeouts over the final three innings. Harrington finished with the two runs allowed on four hits and two walks, also striking out three.
Princeton grew its lead with a pair of third-inning runs after Lauren Sablone singled and Allison Ha reached on an error before Dumais singled home Sablone and a Goodwin sacrifice fly brought home Ha.
A four-run sixth inning saw Princeton expand its lead to 9-2 on Hale's first career homer, a solo shot, a Karis Ford base hit to pick up a walk to Zhang two batters earlier, and a Ha two-run homer to pick up Ford.
Michigan 8, Princeton 4
After a scoreless first two innings, Michigan plated three runs in the third, and though Princeton tied it on a three-run Ford homer in the fifth, Michigan regained the lead in the next inning on the way to the 8-4 win.
Michigan scored the three second-inning runs on a walk and three hits before adding a run in the fourth on a solo homer to make it 4-0.
Princeton's four-run fifth inning saw the Tigers open the scoring with a home run from Michigander Abby Hornberger before a Zhang base hit and a Dumais walk put two on for Ford, who hit a three-run homer to tie it at 4-4.
The tie lasted until the bottom of the sixth, when Michigan put up four runs. Two walks and a double scored the go-ahead run before a passed ball made it 6-4 and a two-run homer made it 8-4.
