Turning in its first doubleheader shutout sweep of Harvard since 1996, the Princeton softball team won the first game at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field 8-0 in six innings on Saturday before following it up with a 6-0 win in game two.
The teams will complete the series with a 12:30 p.m. single game on Sunday, streamed on ESPN+ and televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia+ and SNY. Live scoring will be available here.
Game 1: Princeton 8, Harvard 0 (6 inn.)
The first hit and first home run at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field were one and the same, with Princeton's third batter, Karis Ford, making walks to each of the first two batters, Sonia Zhang and Julia Dumais, costly with a three-run homer to left field. The 3-0 Tiger lead grew in the third inning when Ford drew a two-out walk and Allison Ha followed with a double to make it 4-0.
Princeton added a run to the lead in the fifth when Dumais tripled and Ha followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly, and the Tigers ended it early in the sixth when three walks, to Abby Hornberger, Zhang and Dumais, loaded the bases for a fourth walk of the inning, to Ford, to make it 6-0. Ha then followed with a two-run RBI to reach the eight-run rule and end the game.
Brielle Wright went the distance in the circle, getting the shutout on six hits and two walks allowed, striking out three.
Game 2: Princeton 6, Harvard 0
Ford followed her first-inning, three-run homer with another one, this time using walks to Zhang and Dumais to put runners on before Ford lashed another homer to left to put the Tigers up again 3-0 in the first. The lead grew in the fourth inning when a walk to Hornberger and an error allowed Braeden Hale to reach before Zhang reached on a fielder's choice and an errant throw allowed Hornberger to pick up an extra base and make it 4-0. Princeton kept it going with walks to Dumais and Ford to load the bases for Ha, whose two-run single made it 6-0.
Cassidy Shaw followed Wright's complete game with one of her own, getting the shutout on two hits and two walks, striking out three.
