Softball Team Completes Weekend Sweep of Harvard

Princeton, Columbia and Dartmouth each swept their Ivy-opening series to start 3-0, and Princeton will host the Ivy team with the most league wins so far this year, with 5-1 Yale, which has two Ivy weekend series completed, next weekend at Paul Field.
Unlike both of Saturday's games, Harvard opened the scoring on Sunday, using three singles, a hit batter and a walk to score twice in the top of the first, but Princeton struck right back with a Julia Dumais solo homer, an Allison Ha RBI single to pick up a walk to Karis Ford, and a sacrifice squeeze by Lauren Sablone to score Ha and take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first.
Harvard took the lead right back with four singles and a walk in the second to go up 5-3, and it stayed there until the fourth. Jessica Phelps got Princeton within a run in that inning with her first career homer, and after an error that allowed Braeden Hale to reach and walks to Dumais and Ford, Ha put Princeton back in front with a two-run single before Sablone followed with a base hit to make it 7-5 Princeton. Two batters later, an Allie Goodwin sacrifice fly made it 8-5.
The Tiger lead lasted only until Harvard's next at bat, with a double, a two-run homer and a solo shot pulling the Crimson even at 8-8 in the fifth. Princeton responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Hale double two batters before a Ford sacrifice fly brought home Hale for what became the winning run and a 9-8 lead.
In relief of Brielle Wright, who worked the first inning and into the second, and Cassidy Shaw, who logged the next 3 2/3 innings, rookie Keala Hollenkamp earned her first collegiate win in the circle, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing just a seventh-inning double while retiring the first six batters she faced and ending the threat one batter after that lone hit.Â
