Softball Team Opens Yale Series With Shutout Win
March 28, 2025 | Softball
A five-run fourth inning broke it open for the Princeton softball team on Friday afternoon at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field with the Tigers beginning the three-game weekend series with Yale with a 6-0 win.
Brielle Wright threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks, before Keala Hollenkamp closed it out in the seventh, allowing just a walk as Princeton improved to 4-0 in the Ivy.
Yale starter Emma Taylor held Princeton hitless through three innings but walked five during that span, and the first two of those were costly as Princeton was able to get a run out of a first-and-third double steal try in the first inning.
The 1-0 lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth. Hits from Sonia Zhang and Allie Goodwin and a dropped throw on a sacrifice bid by Graciela Dominguez loaded the bases for an Abby Hornberger sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Pinch-hitter Jessica Phelps then dropped a base hit into right field to make it 3-0, and three batters later, after a walk to Lauren Sablone reloaded the bases, Karis Ford, who had been walked twice on eight pitches, drew her third walk of the game, forcing in a run to make it 4-0 before an Allison Ha base hit drove in the final two runs.
Princeton and Yale will wrap the series with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The games will be streamed on ESPN+ (Game 1 | Game 2) with live stats available here.
