Since the resumption of full-season play after the pandemic pause, Princeton and Harvard have played 17 times, including multiple games in each of the last three Ivy League postseasons. Princeton has won 10 of those 17 games. In 2022, Princeton took two of three in Cambridge in the regular-season series, then won back-to-back elimination games at home to take the best-of-three Ivy League Playoff Series after Princeton and Harvard finished one-two in the league. In 2023, Princeton took two of three at home during the regular-season series and then hosted the Ivy League Tournament, the inaugural of the current run of the event, and forced the 'if necessary' game against the Crimson after losing their tournament opener, but the Crimson won the NCAA auto bid after Princeton forced that 'if necessary' game. In 2024, Harvard took two of three in Cambridge in the regular season, but Princeton hosted the Ivy League Tournament and beat Harvard in the winner-winner game to advance to the tournament final. In a reversal of 2023, Harvard then forced the 'if necessary' game before Princeton won that game to take the auto bid.
On Princeton: Six Tigers are hitting above .300, and five of the six were either All-Ivy Leaguers in 2024 or made the 2024 All-Ivy Tournament team. Karis Ford (.432) was the 2024 Ivy Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Sonia Zhang (.370) was a first-team All-Ivy Leaguer, Allison Ha (.357) was an honorable mention All-Ivy, Julia Dumais (.333) was a first-team All-Ivy Leaguer, and Lauren Sablone (.321) was a first-team All-Ivy Leaguer. Graciela Dominguez, hitting .347 this season, has raised her batting average from .207 at the end of 2024. There's also one new name in the circle, with Cassidy Shaw and Meghan Harrington as Ivy All-Tournament teamers last year and Brielle Wright having set the Ivy and program single-season and career saves records last season. Rookie Keala Hollenkamp has logged 22 2/3 innings, third on the team.
National stat rankings: Entering the week, Princeton had a top-30 stat ranking in triples per game, with a 22nd-best 0.40. Harvard counted one of seven players who had yet to strike out this season and had enough at-bats to qualify, with Sophie Sun tied for first among toughest players to strike out, as was Cornell's Emma Harshberger. The Crimson counted Audrey Szollosi at sixth in the nation in pitching walks per game (1.00), Savannah Fitzpatrick 10th in doubles per game (0.44), Ryan Grace 25th in hits allowed per seven innings (4.20), and Finley Payne 35th in triples per game (0.14). Szollosi also led the Ivy in on-base percentage at .529, and Sun's .452 batting average led the Ivy. Princeton's 130 total hits led the Ivy, as did the team's 16 homers, 1.07 homers per game, .499 slugging percentage, six triples and 0.40 triples per game. Hollenkamp and Shaw co-lead the Ivy in pitching appearances, at 13.Â
Our new digs: Princeton will open Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field this weekend. It will be Princeton's fourth home venue all-time, beginning with Broadmead Field, which is a couple blocks east of Strubing Field, which had been Princeton's most recent home, before the Class of 1895 Field, which hosted the Tigers from the 1980s through the 2019 season. It is the first Princeton athletic venue named for a female alum. Paul was a member of Princeton's Ivy League title-winning team in 1991 after growing up in Cherry Hill, N.J., and went on to found Lynrock Lake LP, an investment management firm based in Rye Brook, N.Y.Â
