Baseball Comes Up Just Short In Midweek Matchup Versus Villanova
March 19, 2025 | Baseball
VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Tigers faced the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. In a close contest, Princeton fell to Villanova by a score of 3-2.
The Wildcats were able to score a run in each of the three innings for an early lead.
James Beasley started on the mound and allowed just one unearned tally. A second run was wiped from the board on a heads up play from Jordan Kelly to get the throw home to Jake Bold for the out.
Jackson Baldrate worked 4.0 innings for the Tigers and allowed two runs while striking out three.
Jake Kernodle doubled on the first pitch he saw in the top of the fourth. With two outs on the board, Kevin Blowers extended the inning with a walk on a full count to bring up Kelly. Kelly smacked a single to bring Kernodle across the dish to get Princeton's first run of the ballgame.
The top of the fifth saw the second run come in for the Tigers. Grant Werdesheim was aboard on a leadoff walk. The freshman stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error to put a runner in scoring position. Caden Shapiro stepped up to the plate and grounded out, but bought Werdesheim enough time to score.
Princeton will be at Clarke Field for its home opener and begin conference play with a weekend series against the Dartmouth Big Green.
