No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Washes Away Penn State, 16-7

No. 12 Princeton extended its winning streak to four with a 16-7 win over Penn State on a soggy night at Sherrerd Field.
With rain steadily falling from start to finish, the Tigers broke open their own floodgates with an 11-2 run that took a one-goal Tiger lead and turned had the clock running with a 16-6 Princeton lead late in the fourth quarter.
McKenzie Blake recorded a hat trick, giving her 20 goals through five games this season. Sophie Whiteway added a pair, as did Colette Quinn.
Amelia Hughes made eight saves in goal, including four in the second quarter.

How It Happened
- Penn State scored first 4:32 into the game when Emma Kelly connected for her first goal of the season.
- Meg Morrisroe and Sophie Whiteway then scored for the Tigers to give Princeton a 2-1 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Tigers would not trail the rest of the way.
- The Nittany Lions tied the game at 2-2 via a Lauren Saltz goal with 7:10 to play in the opening quarter.
- Morrisroe then scored her second of the game with 3:59 remaining in the opening period to give Princeton a 3-2 lead and the Tigers never relinquished that lead the rest of the way.
- Penn State twice got within a goal in the second quarter, but each time Princeton had an answer to extend their lead. After a Brooke Hoss goal with 10:27 left in the second quarter, the Nittany Lions did not score for the next 14:16 of game play. By the time Hoss scored for the Nittany Lions with 11:11 to play in the third quarter, Princeton's lead had ballooned to 9-5.
- After that Hoss goal, the Tigers scored seven of the game's next eight goals to salt away their fourth win in a row.
