PRINCETON – Derek Ellingson earned the USA Water Polo Northeast Zone Sandy Nitta Award, the organization announced.
Ellingson had led the Tigers to an 18-6 record this season and a 9-2 mark in the CWPA. With a win over Bucknell, Princeton will clinch the No. 1 seed in the CWPA Tournament.
Overall, Ellingson has led the team to a 121-39 mark in his six campaigns as head coach. Princeton has won consecutive CWPA crowns and reached the NCAA Semifinals in 2023. It marked the first time that a non-West Coast school reached the Final Four since 2016.
The winners, representing zones from all across the country, honor contributions in variety of areas including coaching, officiating, volunteering, masters water polo and more. USA Water Polo will announce the National Award winners from the list of Zone winners later in the year.
