Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE – The Princeton Baseball Team collected a doubleheader split against the Harvard Crimson at O'Donnell Field on Friday afternoon.
Princeton 1, Harvard 0
The Tigers put the first two batters of the contest on but couldn't put a run across as a double play ended the threat. Harvard's first scoring chance came in the second inning after a Jordan Kang two-out double, but Andrew D'Alessio got a groundout to retire the side.
Harvard opened the fourth inning with a single and advancement to second base on an error, but D'Alessio punched out two and collected a ground out. The senior continued his outstanding performance by retiring 12 of 13 Crimson hitters between the fourth and seventh frames.
Princeton's run came in the top of the eighth after Jay Mentink led off with a double. He moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt from Grant Werdesheim before scoring on an RBI groundout from Jake Koonin.

D'Alessio wrapped up his outing with a career-high eight innings and eight strikeouts along with no walks. Justin Kim picked up the save after finishing off the Crimson in the ninth.
Harvard 3, Princeton 2
The Crimson put together the first scoring opportunity in the second frame, but Jacob Faulkner got consecutive strikeouts to end the inning.
RBI singles by William Lybrook and Tyler Shulman put Harvard in front, 2-0, one stanza later. The home team added an insurance tally with another RBI knock by Shulman in the seventh.
Princeton put together a threat in its last at-bat. Werdesheim led off by getting on via an error. After a strikeout, Jake Bold doubled him in before the catcher came around to score on a single by Caden Shapiro. Harvard escaped with a victory by getting a double play to end the contest.
Faulkner struck out a career high eight Harvard hitters in seven frames of work.
Princeton and Harvard finish the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
