April 27, 2025 | Baseball
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Princeton baseball team faced the Yale Bulldogs for an Ivy League doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers fell to Yale in both games, the first by a score of 15-1 and the second 9-2.
Game 1: Princeton 1, Yale 15
The Bulldogs got on the board early with a six spot in the bottom of the second.
Princeton looked to respond with two runners on in the top of the third, but left them stranded. The Tigers were able to force Yale to do the same in the bottom of the frame.
Yale tacked on a run in the fourth, but again left two aboard. The Bulldogs were able to plate eight more runs throughout the contest.
Jordan Kelly knocked a double into center field in the top of the ninth and was brought in by Tommy Googins to avoid the shutout.
Game 2: Princeton 2, Yale 9
Caden Shapiro started the second game of the twin bill off by attacking the first pitch he saw. The senior outfielder knocked a solo home run to centerfield to make it 1-0 Princeton.
Yale tied things up at one apiece in the third. Princeton turned a double play and Liam Kinneen struck out the batter to close out the frame.
The Tigers took back the lead in the fourth when Jay Mentink brought Jake Bold home from third.
The Bulldogs responded by taking advantage of an error to put a runner in scoring position before bringing in the game-tying run.
Kinneen was able to force Yale to leave the bases loaded in the fifth to help Princeton stay close, but the Bulldogs brought in two just an inning later. The Tigers got two outs at the dish to limit the damage.
The home team added five runs in the last two innings to secure the second win of the day.
The final game of the series is set for Monday, April 28 at 12:00 PM.
