No. 6 Women's Rowing Preps for Ivy Championships This Weekend
May 15, 2025 | Women's Rowing - Open
PRINCETON – The No. 6 Princeton Women's Rowing Team heads to Cooper River for the Ivy League Championships this weekend.
Racing gets underway on Saturday with heat races beginning at 4 p.m. Action starts with Varsity 4B heats (4:00 p.m., 4:10) followed by the varsity eight (4:30, 4:40), second varsity (4:50, 5:00), varsity 4A (5:10, 5:20), third varsity (5:30, 5:40) and varsity 4C (5:50).
Sunday's racing starts at 8 a.m. with the Varsity 4C Grand Final. Other races include the varsity 4B finals (8:10 a.m., 8:20 a.m.), third varsity (8:30, 8:40), varsity 4A (8:50, 9:00), second varsity (9:10, 9:20) and the varsity eight (9:30, 9:40).
Last year, the Tigers needed the varsity eight to win to secure the Ivy League title and the boat came through in a big way.
The top boat led throughout and took home a 6:30.52, 2.5 seconds in front of the rest of the field. Penn was second (6:33.03) followed by Yale (6:34.45).
With the victory, the Tigers jumped to the top of the NCAA Automatic Bid (1V, 2V, 4A) leaderboard with 44 points in front of Yale (39), Brown (37) and Penn (35).
In the overall team point standings, Princeton's 82 points led the field in front of Brown (75), Yale (71) and Penn (66).
Since 2019, the Ivy representative in the NCAA Rowing Championships is determined by the team that has the highest point total in the V8, 2V8 and V4 events.
That hasn't stopped the Tigers' Ivy streak which is currently up to seven in a row. Before 2019, the Ivy representative has been determined by the winner of the 1V. Princeton's 1V has won nine of the last 10 Ivy Grand Finals and has not finished off the medal stand since 2008.
Princeton's first varsity has victories this season over No. 7 Brown, Cornell, Harvard, No. 10 Syracuse, No. 16 Ohio State and No. 13 Penn.
At the Paris Olympic Games in the summer, Princeton had four alumnae in Claire Collins '19, Kelsey Reelick '14, Emily Kallfelz '19 and Hannah Scott '21 represent their countries. Reelick '14 and Kallfelz '19 led the U.S. four to fourth overall while Collins' 19 helped the U.S. eight to fifth.
Scott '21 helped the Great Britian quad sculls to gold. Scott became the first rowing gold for Princeton since Caroline Lind '06. One day later, Nick Mead '17 joined Scott as he led the U.S. men's four to the top spot.
