Wright Deals Shutout to Clinch Outright Ivy Title, Ivy Tournament at Home
May 02, 2025 | Softball
Thanks to a two-hit, no-walk, seven-strikeout shutout for Brielle Wright and a five-run third inning, the Princeton softball team has assured itself of the outright Ivy League title for 2025 and the right to host the 2025 Ivy League Tournament with a 5-0 win at Brown on Friday.
Princeton will play in the 12 p.m. first game on Thursday against an opponent to be determined. Harvard has also clinched a spot, and Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth are battling for the final two spots. The tournament will run through Saturday, May 10.
Before that, the Tigers will get the chance to build on their 16-3 Ivy League record in a noon doubleheader on Saturday. A Tiger sweep would tie the record for the most Ivy League wins in a season with the 2008 Tigers, 2011 Harvard Crimson and the 2013 Dartmouth Big Green. Links to follow Saturday's doubleheader are available here.
Princeton had six hits on the day and four of them came in the third inning. Graciela Dominguez, Julia Dumais and Braeden Hale started the inning with base hits to load the bases with nobody out, and Karis Ford followed with a walk to force in the first run of the game. An Allison Ha groundout picked up another run, and then Sonia Zhang blasted a three-run home run to left field to make it 5-0.
That was plenty for Wright and the Tigers. Wright allowed a first-inning, two-out single, retired the next eight batters, saw a batter reach on a throwing error with one out in the fourth, retired the next nine, gave up a double with one out in the seventh, and then set down the next two batters to end it.
