No. 1 Women's Lightweight Rowing Wins 2025 IRA National Championship

CAMDEN, N.J. – The No. 1 Princeton University women's lightweight rowing team met the moment Sunday morning at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship at the Cooper River, winning a fourth straight Commissioner's Cup along with a pair of gold medals.
The Tigers ended the regatta with 67 points in the Commissioner's Cup standings, which is awarded to the team with the most team points. No. 2 Radcliffe came in second with 59 points and No. 3 Boston University third with 57.
The team points trophy is a tribute to our walk ons. We had four walk ons in the four. Coach Chris welcomes these athletes in and teaches them the technical aspects of the sport very well. Our experienced recruits help teach them how to be collegiate varsity athletes - the mentality and the drive and the discipline. It's a full family effort."
At the conclusion of the 4+, the Tigers sat second in the team standings with 31 points. MIT sat atop the standings with 32 points, and Princeton led BU, who had 30. A victory in the 8+ guaranteed the Tigers a fourth consecutive national title.
The 8+ came out strong in its Grand Final, winning gold (6:19.320) ahead of Radcliffe (6:22.680) and No. 4 Georgetown (6:29.900). The Tigers' time was also an IRA record. Princeton never trailed, racing out to a 3:05.120 after the first 1000 meters ahead of Radcliffe, who rowed to a 3:08.450. The victory pushed the Tigers to the top of the Commissioner's Cup Standings.
The 4+ won its Grand Final (7:14.320) in a thrilling race that was decided in the final moments. While the Tigers rowed out to a 3:34.850 in the first 1000 meters to 3:37.740 by MIT, the Engineers were able to close the gap throughout the final 1000 meters. Princeton was able to hold on and earn the first-place finish, with MIT winning silver (7:15.220) and Radcliffe (7:18.820) bronze.
The 2x finished sixth (7:57.210) in its Grand Final.

"Losing in the heats gave us the edginess we needed," said Head Coach Paul Rassam. "We have some proud, ferocious racers on our team. They took some anger to the handle and threw down hard. Our boats raced with a lot of aggression and belief in those finals. I saw a lot of courage out of them.Never gets old!
