Princeton Picked First in Ivy League Preseason Poll
August 18, 2025 | Women's Soccer
The first team to win both the Ivy League title and the Ivy League Tournament title is picked to make that first step again this fall.
With nine of the 16 first-place votes and 118 poll points, Princeton was picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll announced Monday. The league's athletic communications contacts and a media designee from each school vote in the poll.
Brown was second with six first-place votes and 105 poll points, and Harvard was third with one first-place vote and 96 poll points. Columbia (87), Yale (61), Dartmouth (41), Penn (41) and Cornell (27) rounded out the poll.
Princeton will open the season with an visit from Rutgers on Friday at 5 p.m. in the first of two visits from Big Ten opponents during the regular season. Ohio State, ranked No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason top-25 poll, will visit on Aug. 28 with Syracuse from the ACC coming in three days later on Aug. 31. Admission to all regular-season home games is free.
Despite sending Pietra Tordin and her team-best 10 goals last season to the NWSL's Portland Thorns, Princeton returns the scorers of 23 of its 40 goals from last season with Alexandra Barry, Brooke Dawahare and Isabella Garces leading the returners with four goals apiece last season. Fellow graduate Heather MacNab, who went on to the NWSL's North Carolina Courage, led the team with nine assists, Barry and Drew Coomans co-lead the returners with five assists apiece last season as Princeton brings back those who had 25 of the team's 46 assists in 2024.
From the back line, MacNab, Kiley Hamou and Ryann Brown graduated, but the Tigers return Zoe Markesini, who played for Canada in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup last year, from among the team's usual defensive unit that allowed just 12 goals to 40 scored for Princeton.
At the backstop, Tyler McCamey, who had 17 of the team's 19 decisions last season, graduated, with junior Cecilia Cerone going 2-0 last season with one goal allowed in 180 minutes between the posts. Among Princeton's goalkeeping corps, sophomore Sydney Romano returns and rookie Carson Proctor joins the program this season.
