Princeton Edges Harvard In Ivy Preseason Poll, Ranked 10th Nationally
August 26, 2025 | Field Hockey
There wasn't much that separated Princeton and Harvard field hockey in 2024. If the Ivy League preseason poll is accurate, this year will feature more of the same.
Princeton was voted No. 1 in the preseason poll that was released Tuesday — with almost no difference between the Tigers and the Crimson. In fact, both teams had eight first-place votes, and Princeton totaled 120 points to 118 for Harvard.
This is a reflection of last season, when Princeton defeated Harvard 2-1 in overtime in the regular season to win the Ivy League championship at Harvard and then Harvard returned the favor, beating Princeton 2-1 in overtime in the Ivy League tournament final. Both teams went to the NCAA tournament and reached the quarterfinal round.
In addition, the preseason NFHCA poll was also released Tuesday, with Princeton at No. 10 and Harvard at No. 6. The Tigers' schedule includes the top two in the poll (Northwestern and North Carolina), as well as No. 4 Syracuse, No. 6 Harvard, the two No. 11s (UConn and Syracuse), No. 16 Rutgers and No. 18 Penn State.
Princeton will open its season at home against Old Dominion and North Carolina on Sept. 5 and 7. Penn will also be at Bedford Field for the crossover event.
