Ella Cashman Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week

Ella Cashman had already done all she could on the defensive end of the field. Then she took care of business at the other end.

Cashman led a Princeton defense that held its two opponents this weekend — No. 5 Syracuse and No. 18 Rutgers — without a goal in 120 minutes of regulation time. She also scored the only goal of Princeton's 1-0 overtime win at Rutgers Sunday afternoon.

For her performance, Cashman has been honored as the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week.

The junior captain was part of a defensive effort that wipedout Syracuse, who had been the No. 4 team in the country in scoring offense at nearly six goals per game, to only five shots in the game. The only shot on goal the Orange had was on a penalty stroke in overtime, which was the difference in that 1-0 loss.

Cashman and her defensive teammates then held Rutgers scoreless for 71 minutes, through regulation and overtime, before Cashman ended it by redirecting a feed on a penalty corner into the cage. Princeton held Rutgers to five shots as well.

Cashman was a first-team All-Ivy League and first-team All-Region seleciton a year ago.
