No. 9 Princeton Rolls Past UConn 5-0 On Senior Day
September 21, 2025 | Field Hockey
Helena Große spoke for herself, her senior classmates and the entire Princeton field hockey team with four simple words Sunday afternoon:
"That was so exciting," she said.
Yes it was. No. 9 Princeton finally erupted on offense and continued to play suffocating defense — with Große involved on both ends – as the Tigers rolled to a 5-0 win over UConn at Bedford Field on Senior Day for the Class of 2026. Princeton honored its six seniors — Große, Ava Dempsey, Ella Hampson, Grace Anne McCooey, Talia Schenck and Beth Yeager — before the game.
The win improved Princeton to 4-2 on the season with a third-straight shutout and a fourth-straight game without allowing a regulation goal. The Tigers had scored six goals in their first five games combined before putting up five against the Huskies.
Große was part of the defense that kept UConn off the board while also having an assist and then her first career goal, in her role as the inserter on penalty corners.
"I was so excited after I scored that I started crying," she said.
Yeager started things early, with a goal five minutes in after Clem Houlden had rifled a long pass to the top of the circle. It was a 2-0 game after 15 minutes after goalie Olivia Caponiti turned aside a breakaway after a turnover and Izzy Morgan scored the first of her career, rapping in a perfect crossing pass from Anna Faulstich. It stayed that way through halftime.
The fun really started in the third quarter, when Ottilie Sykes drilled home a pass from Beth Yeager on a penalty corner and then Hampson lifted one into the back of the cage after a back pass from Große off another corner for her first goal of the year. It was 4-0 heading to the fourth, and it became 5-0 on Große's goal.
Next up for Princeton? That would be Friday's showdown at home against unbeaten and fifth-ranked Harvard in a game that will have a huge impact on the Ivy League race.
