Women’s Hockey Announces Additions To The Staff
September 22, 2025 | Women's Ice Hockey
The Princeton women's hockey team has announced its additions to round out the 2025-26 team staff.
Shelly Picard will return to Princeton as an assistant coach and Morgan Bronstein will serve as the team's Director of Hockey Operations.
Picard was previously an assistant coach at Princeton with head coach Courtney Kessel for two seasons.
"We're so excited to welcome Shelly to our staff! Shelly and I have always had a great balance working together, our time at Princeton proved just how well we complement one another," Kessel said. "Asking her to come back was an easy decision. She's a tremendous coach who brings invaluable experience from her playing career, and more than that, she's truly one of the kindest and hardest-working people I've ever met. We're incredibly lucky to have her, and I can't wait to build this program with her by my side."
Picard was an assistant coach with the 2025 US Under-18 Women's National team that won Silver at U-18 Worlds and will serve as an assistant again in 2026.
An Olympic silver medalist and four-time IIHF World Champion, Picard most recently was an assistant coach for the LIU women's hockey team.
Prior to entering coaching, Picard was a standout defenseman at Harvard. She was a three-time All-Ivy League selection and, in 2015, she was a key contributor to the Crimson's run to the national championship game.
In between her sophomore and junior year, she joined Team USA for its silver-medal run in the 2014 Olympics.
From 2016 through '19, Picard played for the NWHL's Metropolitan Riveters. Picard capped her professional career in 2019 with a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships.
Bronstein joins the Tigers following a season as the Women's Ice Hockey Operations Coordinator at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
"Morgan is truly a jack of all trades," Kessel said. "She's young, driven, and eager to continue developing in our game. Her passion for hockey is obvious, and it's clear she's ready to grow and contribute in any way she can. We're really looking forward to welcoming her into our Tiger family!"
At RIT, Bronstein was in charge of equipment operations, in game video tagging and replay using Catapult Thunder, helped to plan and execute prospects and community camps, coordinated all travel, meals and scheduling and supported the coaches and players on the ice with daily practices
Bronstein worked on the coaching staff for TeamONE Hockey this summer, serving as the coach for the girl's teams from age 10-19. Bronstein previously served as a graduate assistant at Boston College working with the hockey operations from August-November 2023.
Bronstein has worked closely with USA Hockey over her career, including working hockey operations with the senior national team and collegiate teams for August Festival from 2021-25. She also was selected to work hockey operations and video for the USA Development Campis in 2022, 2023 and 2025. In the summer of 2023, Bronstein worked on the hockey operations staff for USA Hockey, serving as the U15 Girls Camp Hockey Operations Lead.
Bronstein received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Connecticut College in 2023 and a master's degree in sports administration from Boston College in 2024.
