A 10-day, three-state run for the Princeton men's tennis team begins with a match at Boise State Saturday afternoon.
It's actually a four-state trip if you count that the Tigers flew to Boise by way of Dallas/Ft. Worth Thursday before a Friday practice in Boise. Princeton will not return to New Jersey until a week from Sunday, in advance of the start of second semester classes.
"We are looking forward to opening our dual match season at Boise," said Princeton head coach Billy Pate after his team's arrival in Idaho. "This is a long trip, yet one that will present some great opportunities. We want our guys to be challenged against strong opponents right away, and playing in altitude coupled with a tough environment will be a great barometer to see where we are. Undoubtedly, we have high expectations this year with the nucleus of our team returning, particularly after a successful fall campaign. Our guys worked hard over the winter break, and they came back ready for this initial trip - so we are excited to get going."
Princeton and Boise State will be meeting for the third time, after the Tigers won 7-0 last year in Princeton and 4-1 in 2017. This is the dual match opener for both teams for 2026, after Boise Dtate went 21-6 a year ago and reached the NCAA tournament and Princeton went 22-9 and advanced to the NCAA second round.
After this match, Princeton will fly to Seattle to face Washington Tuesday and then to San Diego for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, which will start with a match against Miami on Jan. 23.
