Landon Ardila
Princeton Opens 2026 With 5-2 Win At Boise State
January 17, 2026 | Men's Tennis
The Princeton and Boise State men's tennis teams both played well into May a year ago, which meant that a January meeting between the two figured to have at least something of a postseason feel to it. Ultimately, that's how it played out as the two opened their dual match seasons inside the Broncos' loud bubble.
Landon Ardila won 7-6, 7-6 over Avery Tallakson at No. 3 singles to give Princeton the clinching point in what became a 5-2 Tiger victory between the two NCAA tournament teams of a year ago. Ardila won his first tiebreaker 8-6 and then nailed down the fourth point of the match with a 7-3 win in the second.
The match in Idaho will be followed by a flight to Seattle and a match Tuesday at Washington. After that, Princeton will head to San Diego for the ITA Kickoff next weekend.
"As expected it was a tough challenge playing at Boise to open the season," said Princeton head coach Billy Pate. "They are such a well-coached team with a great culture. I give a lot of credit to our guys for stepping up at the right moments and not allowing their spirited atmosphere to impact us down the stretch. We didn't play as cleanly as we would like, but it's understandable for the first match. We'll look forward to our match against UW on Tuesday and take the next days to work on areas to be sharper."
Princeton took the doubles point when Ardila teamed with Paul Inchauspe for a 6-3 win at No. 1 and a 6-2 win by Sebastian Sec and Aleksandar Mitric at No. 3.
Inchauspe then won his match in straight sets at first singles, after which Boise State took wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to tie it at 2-2. Milan Markovits put Princeton up 3-2 when he closed out Julius Seifert 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6, leaving it up to the remaining two matches.
Ardila then finished his match, and the final point then came from Fnu Nidunjianzan at No. 2 with his three-set win.
