Women's Basketball Gets Tough Road Win At Penn, 74-68

PHILADELPHIA – Madison St. Rose and Olivia Hutcherson combined for 35 points as the Princeton Women's Basketball Team held off the Penn Quakers, 74-68, at the Palestra on Saturday afternoon.

The two Ivy foes exchanged field goals before two free throws closed the Penn deficit to two, 67-65, with 1:19 remaining.
St. Rose countered with a bucket and added a free throw to extend the Tigers' advantage back to five, 70-65, as the clock ticked under 40 seconds.
A three-pointer from Penn's Simone Sawyer made it a two-point game with 13 seconds left, but Princeton hit four free throws to close out the win.
Trailing 8-4 in the early going, Princeton ripped off a 21-4 sprint to end the first quarter by shooting 6-of-9 from the floor during that stretch (66.7 percent) to go in front, 25-12, after 10 minutes. The Tigers led by as many as 13 in the second stanza before holding a 38-30 lead at the break.
Princeton kept Penn at bay in the third frame, leading by as many as 13, but Penn got within nine, 55-46, as the fourth quarter started.
Olivia Hutcherson set a new career high with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding five rebounds, three steals, three assists and two blocks.
St. Rose recorded 15 points including her 1,000th career point becoming the 29th Tiger to reach that milestone.
Princeton improves to 13-1 overall and 1-0 in the Ivy League while Penn dropped to 10-4 and 0-1 in the conference. The Tigers head back on the road to take on Yale next Saturday (Jan. 10). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
