No. 24 Women's Basketball Falls To Columbia

NEW YORK – The No. 24 Princeton Women's Basketball Team fell to the Columbia Lions, 70-56, at Levien Gym on Friday evening.
A 12-2 run by the Tigers in the first quarter put them up eight, 14-6, with 3:17 to go. Olivia Hutcherson's bucket gave the road team a 20-11 advantage after 10 minutes. Fadima Tall scored nine points during that stretch to pace the offense.
Madison St. Rose's basket in the paint with 3:02 remaining in the first half gave Princeton a 29-18 lead, but Columbia countered with seven consecutive points before the score was settled at 31-25 at the break.
Columbia used a 10-2 sprint to tie the game at 35-all in the third quarter. The two Ivy rivals exchanged baskets before Mia Broom's triple put the home team ahead, 42-39. Columbia outscored Princeton, 22-10, in the third stanza and led 47-41 as the final 10 minutes began.
The Lions ripped off seven of nine to go up double digits, 54-43, as the clock read 7:16. The Tigers would get only get as close as nine the rest of the way.
Tall led the Tigers with 16 points while Olivia Hutcherson posted 12 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and two dimes in the loss.
Princeton falls to 19-3 overall and 7-2 in the Ivy League while Columbia improves to 16-6 and 7-2 in the conference. The Tigers take on Cornell Big Red Saturday in Ithaca. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
