Softball Team Opens Season With Florida Twinbill Sweep
February 13, 2026 | Softball
Friday in Jacksonville saw the Princeton softball team open the 2026 season with a doubleheader sweep, first with an 11-3, five-inning win over Stony Brook, followed by a 7-5, eight-inning win over weekend co-host Jacksonville.
The Stony Brook game saw Princeton hit three homers on the way to the run-rule win.
After two outs in the first, Braeden Hale worked a walk and Karis Ford followed by driving the next pitch out to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Sonia Zhang drew a free pass, stole second, and came home on Allie Goodwin's RBI double to make it 3-0.
The Tigers added on in the third. Graciela Dominguez and Hale produced back-to-back singles, and after Ford moved the runners with a sacrifice fly, Zhang delivered an RBI base hit to extend the margin.
Stony Brook scratched across an unearned run in the fourth, but Princeton responded with the decisive frame in the bottom half.
Mia Valenzuela opened the inning with a solo homer, the first of her career, and later in the inning, Ford lined an RBI single, Goodwin forced in a run with a walk, and Courtney Harrison broke the game open by launching a grand slam to center for her first career home run to make it 11-1.Â
In the circle, Keala Hollenkamp worked 4 2/3 innings to earn the win, allowing three runs, only one earned, while striking out six. Reece Uehara made her career debut, getting the final out.
Princeton finished with 10 hits, including two hits apiece from Dominguez, Ford, and Valenzuela.
The nightcap saw Princeton bounce back from seeing a late lead slip to win in extras.
Princeton first struck in the third. After a two-out double by Julia Dumais and a walk to Graciela Dominguez, Braeden Hale delivered an RBI single to put Princeton in front.
Jacksonville answered with two runs in the fifth, but Princeton immediately pulled even at 2-2 in the sixth when Karis Ford launched a solo home run to left.
The game swung again in the seventh. Julieta Roa opened the inning with a pinch-hit single, Dumais and Dominguez followed with base hits, and Hale brought home two with another single. Later in the frame, a sacrifice fly by Zhang extended the lead to 5-2.
The Dolphins would not go away, plating three in the bottom half to force extras.
Under international tiebreaker rules, Princeton capitalized quickly in the eighth. After the placed runner moved into scoring position, Harrison singled home the go-ahead run. Valenzuela followed with an RBI double to provide critical insurance and make it 7-5.
Jacksonville advanced the tying run to third in the bottom of the inning, but Princeton closed the door to finish the sweep.
Hale paced the offense with three RBI, while Dumais collected three hits and scored twice. Dominguez and Ford each added two hits in a 12-hit Tiger attack.
Brielle Wright went six innings in the circle and left with the 5-2 lead while Reece Uehara picked up the win in relief for her first collegiate decision.
