A – About The Game
Princeton and Maryland are both coming off losses a week ago, as the Tigers opened their season with a 13-7 defeat at home against Penn State and Maryland fell at Syracuse 11-9. Princeton’s loss ended a 13-year winning streak in season opening games.
B – Burns
Colin Burns is one of Princeton’s three captains, along with Cooper Kistler and Chad Palumbo. Burns is Princeton’s eighth junior captain in the last 25 years, along with George Baughan, Michael Sowers, Bear Goldstein, Tom Schreiber, John Cunningham, Jason Doneger and Ryan Boyle.
C – Caused Turnovers
Princeton had 14 caused turnovers against Penn State last week, led by three from Finn Fox and two each from Cooper Mueller and Hunter Spiess.
D – Defense
Princeton is replacing two starters on defense from a year ago with the graduated Michael Bath and Colin Mulshine (a four-year starter). Cooper Kistler started every game on defense in 2024 before playing LSM last year, and he is back on defense this year. Finn Fox was also an LSM a year ago before becoming a starter this year on defense. Hunter Spiess became a starter midway through last season and is back this year.
E – Every
Colin Burns and Nate Kabiri are the only two current Princeton players who have started every game of their careers.
F – Fitzgerald
Freshman Russ Fitzgerald was 3 for 5 facing-off in his college debut last week. He had one groundball and caused a turnover on one of the two face-offs he lost.
G – Gauntlet
Princeton’s next three games — in a nine-day span — are against No. 2 Maryland, No. 1 Syracuse and No. 3 North Carolina.
H – History
Maryland is 6-0 against Princeton since the start of the 2022 season, including in the 2022 NCAA semifinals and 2024 NCAA opening round. Maryland leads the all-time series 37-12-1. Princeton is 7-33-1 against Maryland in the regular season and 5-4 in the NCAA tournament, including 2-0 in NCAA championship games (1997, 1998).
I – In Goal
Princeton senior Ryan Croddick was the Ivy League Goalie of the Year last year, when his 241 saves were the second-most ever by a Princeton goalie. Croddick also had three assists, the most by a Princeton goalie since 1973. Croddick is a preseason third-team All-American.

J – JG
Jackson Green, a shortstick defensive midfielder, is also a wide receiver on Princeton’s football team, where he caught 17 passes for 233 yards and there TDs. He is the first Princeton player since Rob Bordley ’70 to have at least one goal in lacrosse and one touchdown in football for Princeton.
K – Krammers
Both Krammer brothers — senior SSDM Quinn and junior second-line middie Carson — both have 12 career points. The Krammers are one of two sets of brothers on the team, along with Hunter and Tucker Spiess.
L – League
Princeton was voted the Ivy League preseason favorite in the league’s media poll. Princeton received 12 of 14 first-place votes and 96 points total, 11 points ahead of Cornell. The defending NCAA champion Big Red also received the other two first-place votes. Harvard was third in the poll, followed by Yale, Dartmouth, Penn and Brown.
M – May
Princeton has played in each of the last four NCAA tournaments, with one Final Four and one quarterfinal appearance. Princeton has also won two of the last three Ivy League tournaments and reached the final of the other.
N – Nate
Nat Kabiri is Princeton’s current leader in career points with 121 (66G, 55A). Kabiri is also the first Princeton player to have at least 30 goals and at least 25 assists as a freshman and sophomore.
O – Offense
Chad Palumbo (85) and Colin Burns (83) are closing in on 100 career points. Should they get there, they would be the 39th and 40th Princeton players to reach the milestone.
P – Palumbo
Chad Palumbo was a preseason first-team All-American and the preseason Division I Midfielder of the Year from USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Q – Quarterly
Princeton was outscored 7-1 and outshot 14-2 in the first quarter against Penn State. Princeton and Penn State were even at 6-6, with shots 24-21 in Princeton’s favor, in the last three quarters.
R – Replacing
Peter Buonanno has moved from midfield to attack and taken the spot vacated by the graduated Coulter Mackesy, a first-team All-American and Tewaaraton finalist a year ago who graduated as Princeton’s all-team leader with 167 career goals. Buonanno was the unanimous Ivy League Rookie of the Year last year.

S – Shorties
Princeton returns four of its top five shortstick defensive midfielders from a year ago: Owen Fischer, Jackson Green, Quinn Krammer. Cooper Mueller. Both Green and Mueller were named to multiple preseason All-American teams.
T – Tewaaraton
Princeton has two players on the Tewaaraton preseason watchlist: goalie Ryan Croddick and midfielder Chad Palumbo.
U – Unique
The 2026 season marks the 25th anniversary of Princeton’s sixth NCAA championship. Princeton’s NCAA titles have come in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2001.
V – Very Good
Princeton is 43-21 in its last 64 games dating to the start of the 2022 season. Princeton is also 24-9 in the last two seasons.
W – Wade
Tucker Wade scored the first Princeton goal against Penn State and has now scored Princeton’s first goal in eight of the last 18 games. Wade, a junior, became Princeton’s first sophomore midfielder to be first-team All-Ivy since Tom Schreiber in 2012.

Andrew McMeekin is the only Princeton player with at least two seasons of at least 100 groundballs.
Y – Yearly
Colin Burns and Nate Kabiri are in Year 6 of playing together, between club ball, Georgetown Prep and now Princeton.
Z – Zinger
Princeton has three players whose fathers competed at Princeton, two of whom played lacrosse. Sophomore Kevin Morrow is the son of David Morrow, the 1993 Division I Player of the Year. Sophomore Porter Malkiel is the son of Jon Malkiel, a member of the 1992 and 1994 NCAA teams. Junior Cooper Mueller is the son of Kit Mueller, the 1990 and 1991 Ivy League men’s basketball Player of the Year.
