The Princeton men's tennis team vaulted into the national Top 20 this week following its thrilling ECAC championship a week ago. The Tigers now host four teams this weekend who will look to knock the back out of that perch.
Princeton, now at 19th in the latest ITA rankings, will be hosting four teams at the Si Qin Family Tennis Center, two Saturday and two Sunday. The four opponents combined are 19-9 on the season.
The busy weekend begins with a noon match Saturday against Buffalo, followed at 4:30 with No. 64 Penn State. The final two matches will be Sunday, at 10 am against Georgetown and then 3 pm against Lehigh.
The Tigers swept through the ECAC tournament last weekend, with an epic 4-3 final win over then-No. 12 Columbia. In addition to the team ranking, Princeton also saw Paul Inchauspe move up to No. 4 in singles after his win over two-time defending NCAA champion Michael Zheng of Columbia, while Inchauspe and Landon Ardila are now No. 5 in doubles. Ardila was the one who delivered the winning point against Columbia in his match at third singles.
Sebastian Sec is ranked nationally in doubles — with two different partners. He and Aleksandar Mitric are 60th this week, and Sec and Meecuh Begin are 77th.
"The ECAC tournament taught us that, despite the hard losses, the future is up to us to be written," Sec says. "We have plenty of matches remaining, and if anything, the most important ones of the year, so this just gave us a glimpse of what we want to achieve. We will continue to work extremely hard and use what we did as confidence, which will play a big role in the Ivy League regular season and especially going into the NCAA tournament in May. We are very excited for what is to come and believe the sky is the limit for our team."
