No. 14 Women's Water Polo Earns Split; Defeats Whittier, 24-4

CLAREMONT – For the second time in less than a week, the No. 14 Princeton Women's Water Polo Team recorded 24 goals as it took down the Whittier Poets, 24-4, at the Atzec Aquaplex on Saturday.
No. 19 San Diego State 12, No. 14 Princeton 10
After the two teams exchanged two goals each, Princeton got two with under 90 seconds to go in the first quarter from Vivian Golub and Kendall Wyer at the buzzer.
Shanna Davidson opened the second quarter to extend the Tigers' lead to three, 5-2. San Diego State made a run, using a 4-1 run to tie the game at 6-all with 2:21 left in the first half. Golub's goal with 22 seconds remaining made it a 7-7 contest at the break.
Davidson started the third stanza with a tally, but San Diego State answered with four consecutive goals, jumping in front, 11-8, with six minutes left. After the two opponents exchanged tallies, Wyer got the Tigers within two as the clock read 1:14, but Princeton could not get closer.
Golub and Wyer led the Tigers with hat tricks in the loss.
Princeton 24, Whittier 4
The Tigers' 24 goals matches the second-highest total in a single game in program history. Princeton also scored 24 goals vs. Fresno Pacific last week.
Head coach Derek Ellingson's team began the game with five straight tallies and eventually led 6-1 after eight minutes. The Tigers would go up 9-1 in the second quarter and led 14-4 at halftime.
Princeton did not allow a goal over the 16:52 of game action. The Tigers had four players score hat tricks in Olivia Krotts (five), Kendall Wyer (four), Charlotte Riches (three) and Emese Batizi (three).
The Tigers finish the Atzec Invitational on Saturday against No. 9 Indiana (12 p.m. ET, 9 a.m. PT) and No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer (3 p.m. ET, 12 p.m. PT).
