No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 9 Yale
March 29, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse
A sustained run from visiting No. 9 Yale turned a 4-4 contest into a final score of 16-8 as No. 15 Princeton struggled to find offensive over the middle two quarters in a Top-15 Ivy clash at Sherrerd Field.
A pair of Princeton goals in the first minute of the second quarter from Meg Morrisroe and Maggie Molnar tied things up at 4-4 with 14:03 to play in the opening half. From that point on, it was all Bulldogs as Yale scored the next eight goals to build a 12-4 lead that was too much for the Tigers to overcome.
Jami MacDonald and Meg Morrisroe each had two goals for the Tigers. Ella Sloan had a goals and two assists while Haven Dora and Maggie Bacigalupo each had a goal and an assist.
Draw controls were even in the game, 13-13, with Morrisroe winning six for the Tigers and Abigail Roberts adding five.
Yale's Kate Gould won eight draws while scoring twice and adding three assists. Ashley Newman had four goals while Ashley Kiernan and Lily Spinner each scored twice.
Yale's defense stymied the Tigers throughout the game as Princeton committed 17 turnovers after entering the afternoon averaging 11 per game which was No. 16 in the country.
Those turnovers negated a potential possession advantage for the Tigers brought about by the play of Amelia Hughes who made 12 saves in goal – including eight in the first half. Yale's Niamh Pfaff made five total saves in goal.
The first quarter and change looked to be every bit of the Top-15 clash that was advertised. Goals from Bacigalupo and MacDonald sandwiched around a Yale score from Kelly Holmes had Princeton in front, 2-1, midway through the opening period.
The Bulldogs would counter with the next three to lead 4-2 after the first quarter and Princeton would get the goals from Morrisroe and Molnar early in the second to seemingly settle the game down.
Instead, the Molnar goal 0:57 into the second quarter was the last one the Tigers would net for the next 28:24 of game play. Yale would score its eight in a row, a run halted only by an Ella Sloan free position shot with 0:39 left in the third quarter.
That Sloan goal was almost a carbon copy of a sequence late in the second quarter that was eventually waved off. With Princeton trailing, 7-4, Sloan had drawn a free position attempt with 3.1 seconds to play in the quarter. Her attempt was initially called a goal, but was overturned after Yale called for video review. Princeton countered with a challenge of its own that led to a Yale yellow card on the same sequence and Sloan was given another free position attempt with 1.3 seconds to play. That attempted sailed high, and the first half ended with Yale ahead by three and the momentum in its favor.
Out of halftime, Yale rattled off the next five and would never look back.
The Tigers are back at Sherrerd Field on April 1, hosting Stony Brook at 6 p.m.
