Princeton Splits Doubleheader With Penn, Taking Series Victory

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers split their doubleheader against Penn, taking the series victory.

Penn 12, Princeton 0

In game one of the doubleheader, Penn put up 12 unanswered runs.

Liam Kinneen started on the mound for the Tigers. In his four inning outing, Kinneen surrendered eight hits and eight runs, while striking out two.

Princeton 7, Penn 4

Penn opened up scoring in game two, taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning while adding another run in the third, making it 2-0.

The Tigers quickly chipped away at the deficit at the bottom of the third making it 2-1 with Grant Werdesheim scoring on a wild pitch off the bat of Jake Kernodle.

The Quakers followed in the fourth putting up a run, making it 3-1.

The bottom of the fourth inning worked in favor of the Tigers, with Princeton putting up six runs, taking the 7-3 lead. Three of those runs came off of RBIs from Tommy Googins, Grant Werdesheim and Jake Koonin, followed by a three-run home run from Tomas Cernius.

Penn added one more run in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game.

In his start for the Tigers, Justin Kim pitched three innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while also striking out two.

Will Sword pitched four innings for the Tigers, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out four. This marks Sword's first win of the season.

Ryan Penney closed out the game for the Tigers, pitching one inning in which he allowed one hit, no runs and struck out two.

The Tigers host Wagner this upcoming Wednesday at Clarke Field with a scheduled 3:05 p.m. first pitch.
