Penn Tops Princeton 10-9 In Two OTs
April 08, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse
That the Princeton-Penn women's lacrosse team was headed to overtime seemed to be more likely than not as the chilly evening at Sherrerd Field moved along. That's how close these two were Wednesday night.
Â
In the end, after miraculous saves by both goalies to keep the game going and after an unfriendly pipe denied Princeton a win, it was Penn's Lela Greene nearly a minute into the second OT that would be all that separated the two rivals, as Penn came away with a 10-9 win.
Â
The margin was slim. The impact was huge. Penn stayed unbeaten in the league at 4-0, headed into a first place showdown Saturday against Yale, while Princeton slipped to 2-2.
Â
The score was either tied or a one-goal lead for one team for all but 2:34 of the 66 minutes of this one. Penn forced OT with two straight fourth quarter goals, after a rare moment when it had been a two-goal game, at 9-7 Tigers.
Â
Penn had a great opportunity at the end of regulation when it was two players up for a minute with 1:15 to go, butTiger goalie Amelia Hughes robbed Mary Sack with 20 seconds left to send it extra rim. It stayed tied when Penn goalie Orly Sedransk returned the favor on Princeton's Meg Morrisroe early in the first OT, and then Jami MacDonald almost ended it when her shot tantalizingly rang off the post.
Â
Penn won the draw on the second OT and never gave the ball up, ending it on Greene's rush down the right side.
Â
Hughes was great all night, with 13 saves. Morrisroe and Merrill Watson had two goals each for the Tigers, who are at Columbia Saturday at 1. Â
