Maile Organek of Heavyweight Rowing Named IRCA Coxswain of the Year, Greg Hughes Coach of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRCA) announced another round of postseason awards Friday and Maile Organek of the Princeton University heavyweight rowing team was honored as Coxswain of the Year and Greg Hughes Coach of the Year.
Organek wins the award after a stellar senior season, where she coxed the 2V in every race and helped the boat win its first gold medal at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRCA) National Championship Regatta since 1998, which contributed valuable points to the Tigers' second-place finish in the Ten Eyck standings.
At Eastern Sprints, Organek was part of a 2V that won gold and helped Princeton earn a Rowe Cup championship for most team points. Throughout the season, Organek and the 2V defeated Georgetown, La Salle, Temple, Navy, the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford Columbia, Yale and Brown.
Hughes led the Tigers to a second-place finish in the team point standings at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, along with gold for the 2V and bronze for the 1V and 3V. Hughes also guided the Tigers to a Rowe Cup title at Eastern Sprints, where the 2V, 3V, 4V and 5V won gold the 1V silver.
