Steve Wagner, the goalie for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Field Hockey team in 1996 and a veteran of numerous international competitions, joined the Princeton staff in 2004 and works primarily with the team’s goalkeepers.
Wagner, who was ranked among the top five goalies in the world in the mid 1990’s, has been an assistant coach at both the collegiate and high school levels in addition to working as a strength and conditioning coach and a personal trainer. He has been the Director of Sports Performance at Aspiring Champions since November 2003 and was the head field hockey coach at Friends’ Select School in Philadelphia in 2003.
The 1989 U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Athlete of the Year, Wagner competed in two Pan American Games and a World University Games for the U.S. team in addition to the Atlanta Olympics. He also was a member of the 2002 U.S. Indoor team that qualified for the 2003 World Cup.
Wagner, who earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Minnesota in 2003, has been a goalkeeping coach at Drexel, James Madison and Temple. He also was the head strength and conditioning coach for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA from 1999-2002.
