Marvin Clecidor, whose two-year stint at William & Mary included coaching a future NFL draft choice and leading the Tribe to the second round of the NCAA Championships, will be entering his third season as the defensive backfield coach for Princeton in 2018. Like he did at William & Mary, he is showing that he can develop impact players.
Last season, Clecidor coached a defensive backfield that helped Princeton rank fourth nationally in scoring defense. Starting safety Ben Ellis and cornerback Delan Stallworth each earned All-Ivy League recognition on a defense that held eight of 10 opponents to 14 points or fewer.
In his first season, Clecidor oversaw the development of a young defensive backfield that included two freshman starters, CJ Wall and Trevor Forbes. Wall was a two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, while Forbes earned the Harland "Pink" Baker Award as the team's top defensive freshman.
During his two years at William & Mary, Clecidor coached one of the nation's top defensive backs in DeAndre Houston-Carson, a player who would both be selected as the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association co-Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-America honors. Houston-Carson was drafted in the sixth round by the Chicago Bears the following spring, and he played eight games for the Bears during his rookie season.
Clecidor also guided cornerback Trey Reed to multiple All-CAA honors during his time at William & Mary.
Clecidor joined the William & Mary staff after serving as the secondary coach and director of player development and personnel at Monmouth University for three seasons. During his tenure with the Hawks, he helped develop cornerback Tevrin Brandon, a New York Jets signee, as well as first-team all-conference safety Mike Basile. Clecidor also worked as a defensive graduate assistant at Rutgers during the 2011 season and helped the Scarlet Knights post a 9-4 record, which ended with a win in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. During his time with Rutgers, he coached first-team All-Big East safety Duron Harmon and second-team All-Big East cornerback Logan Ryan.
Clecidor's other coaching stops include one-year stints at Wagner College (2010) and Wilkes University (2009). At Wagner, he coached cornerbacks and helped develop a pair of all-conference standouts, while the Seahawks ranked 15th nationally in pass defense in 2010.
A three-year starter as a defensive back at Lafayette College (2005-09), Clecidor helped the Leopards earn back-to-back Patriot League championships in 2005 and 2006. The two-time all-conference selection (2007, 2008) finished his career with 114 tackles and four interceptions, while he ranked second in the league in pass breakups as a junior. Clecidor graduated from Lafayette with a bachelor's degree in 2009, while he earned a MBA from Wagner in 2012.
