Van Cott comes to Princeton from Tulane, where he enjoyed a four-year career that ended with a run to the second round of the NCAA team tournament in 2016.
"We're delighted to have Ian join the Princeton men's tennis coaching staff for the 2016-17 year," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "I've known Ian for several years as he was a national-level junior player and one of the best players in the Eastern Section. During his four years at Tulane, it was exciting to see the program improve to be one of the top 25 teams in the country. He was a key contributor both on and off the court and comes highly recommended as a person who exudes great energy and leadership. He is very ambitious in starting a career in college coaching and he will add a great deal to our program."
Tulane's final ITA team ranking improved every year Van Cott was with the team, culminating in a No. 31 ranking following a senior season that saw the Green Wave crest at No. 21 on March 8, 2016.
"Ian was a huge part of the resurgence of our program," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "His commitment and great work ethic helped set the tone for the expectations of our team which led us to greater heights each year he was here. I'm positive that his experiences will translate into creating a great environment for Princeton players to develop."
