Molly Hamrick '13, whose Princeton career included a historic 2011 NCAA championship victory, has returned to her alma mater and is in her second season as a coach with the open rowing team.
Last year, Princeton went 12-1 in the regular season, including a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League, and won a third straight Ivy League team title. The 1V returned to the NCAA grand final for the first time since 2013 and placed fifth overall, three spots higher than the boat's seed.
Hamrick began her coaching career as an assistant for the Brookline High School varsity girls program from 2015-2016, as then became an assistant coach at Community Rowing, Inc. (CRI) in Boston, during the summers of 2016 and 2017. This past summer, Hamrick coached an Under-19 W4x to a USRowing Club national championship, and she had three Under-19 W2xs in the Grand Final at Club Nationals, ultimately placing 2nd, 4th, and 5th out of 65 entries.
Hamrick had a remarkable Princeton career, which included the undefeated 2011 season, when the Tigers won both the Ivy League and NCAA title. Her senior season was spectacular as well; after the Tigers won their second Ivy title in three years, the Princeton 1V nearly knocked off California in the NCAA final before ultimately claiming silver.
Hamrick was a two-time first-team All-Ivy League rower, as well as a Regional All-American.
Following her graduation, Hamrick was on the U.S. Under-23 National Team in the Women’s 4x, which reached the championship final of its event in Linz, Austria. Following a move to Boston, Hamrick trained for three and a half years at Riverside Boat Club, as well as with the U.S. National Team Training Center, during which she raced primarily in the 1x and 2x.
During that time, Hamrick won a silver in the Senior Women’s 1x at the 2015 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, a bronze in the Women’s Championship 2x at the 2015 Head of the Charles Regatta, and another bronze in the Women’s 2x at the 2016 US Olympic Trials.
