Desma Colburn will begin her second season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Princeton women's volleyball team during the fall of 2015. During her first season, she helped Princeton to a historic Ivy League championship season, when the Tigers became the first team in league history to go from 0-3 to Ivy League champion.
"We are thrilled to have Desma join our Princeton Volleyball staff," King said upon the hiring. "She is a very accomplished player and has been playing overseas for the last several years. That international competition and savvy will serve her well and bring some fresh ideas to the court."
Colburn brings significant experience as both a player and coach to Princeton. The former standout setter for Oregon State University, Colburn spent nearly a decade in Europe as both a player and assistant coach at several levels.
Colburn's European playing days began with a two-year stint at Voley Murcia in Spain, where she was twice the Superliga Player of the Week and a two-time captain. She played several years afterwards on top French teams (USSPA Albi and TFOC Terville in the Fem Pro A), and she served as captain for the TFOC Terville.
She moved to Germany in 2011, where she both played and coached at TSV Ansbach. Colburn's coaching acumen was developed over 11 years of coaching clinics, as well as work at the junior level during her time in Europe. Recently, she has spent three seasons as the head coach at USAG Ansbach High School.Colburn graduated from Oregon State in 2006 with a degree in photography, and she is among its career leaders in assists. She had a career-high 75 assists in a match against St. Mary's, and 20 digs against Oregon.
