Tigers Top Dartmouth In Overtime 2-1

PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Alex Fiore (Garden City, N.Y.) connected on a crossing ball in the 95th minute of play to give the Tigers a 2-1 overtime win against Dartmouth in women's soccer action in Hanover this afternoon.
Today's victory marks the first Princeton win over Dartmouth, the 1998 Ivy League champion, since a 1-0 decision in 1990 and the first win in Hanover since 1983.
The Big Green got on the board first at 41:30 when freshman Annie Gibson took Melissa Roth's corner cross and rocketed in a shot from the 18-yard line. The Tigers almost had the equalizer in the 44th minute as Susan Rea's (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif.) shot was deflected by Dartmouth goalkeeper Kristen Luckenbill and bounced off the crossbar and back into play.
The eventual tying goal came midway through the second half on a scramble in front of the Dartmouth net. Luckenbill made a stop on the left side and had no time to get back across the goal face, where Josie Francica (Fr., Paramus, N.J.) headed in her first goal of the season off an assist from Tricia Murray (Sr., Farmington, Conn.).
The game was marked by tremendous defensive stops on the Big Green's scoring chances. In the second half Princeton keeper Jordan Rettig (Jr., West Hartford, Conn.) made an incredible diving save with 11 minutes remaining on a shot by Dartmouth's Katie Gayman from the 18. Rettig and the entire Princeton defense held Dartmouth in check, setting up Fiore for her heroics in overtime.
The Tigers are now 3-2 on the year, 2-0 in Ivy competition. Princeton will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, as it hosts Bucknell at Lourie-Love Field. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
