PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The women's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to seven games as the Tigers defeated Brown 2-1 in a thriller in Providence.
Brown got on the board in the 12th minute on a goal by Caitlin Carey. The Tigers responded and knotted the score at one each at the 25:11 mark when sophomore Kelly Sosa (Oneonta, N.Y.) headed home a corner kick off the foot of Heather Deerin (Fr., Livingston, N.J.).
That score would remain through halftime and late into the second stanza. In the 84th minute, Deerin took the Tigers third corner kick of the night. Sosa headed the ball again, only to be denied by a Brown defender. There was a scramble in front of the goal before Julie Shaner (Jr., Gwynedd Valley, Pa.) found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
Princeton outshot the Bears 11-4, and goalkeeper Jordan Rettig (Jr., West Hartford, Conn.) made three saves on the night.
Princeton is now 6-2-1 on the year, 3-0-1 in Ivy play. The Tigers will return to action this Monday as they host local-rival Rider. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
