PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Dana DeCore scored in the 29th minute to lift Princeton University over Rutgers 1-0 in the home opener at Lourie-Love Field on Tuesday night.
The win improves Princeton to 2-0, while Rutgers drops to 1-3-1.
DeCore opened scoring at the 29:23 mark off a pass from Amy Reyes. The goal was DeCore's first of the season. Jordan Rettig and Jonna Iacona recorded their second shutout of the season, combining for two saves.
"Going 2-0 is a solid way to start," head coach Julie Shackford said. "We played well in the first half but lost our legs a little in the second."
Rutgers' scoring opportunities were hampered as they were flagged for offsides on seven occasions, five coming in the first half.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept 19th, when they travel to Ithaca, NY, to open Ivy League play against the Big Red of Cornell. Game time is set for 11 am.
