Field Hockey Earns Shutout Victory Over No. 10 UConn

STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore defender Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over No. 10 Connecticut on Sunday afternoon in Storrs, Connecticut.
Each of Townsends goals were converted off of penalty corners with the help of senior teammates Hilary Matson (Marathon, N.Y.) and Kellie Maul (Marlton, N.J.), who were both credited with the double-assists on each play.
The first goal found its way into the cage as Townsend blasted a shot from the top of the circle with 9:07 remaining in the first half, and sent the Tigers into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Townsend connected on an identical play for her second score with 8:15 remaining in the game. The goals stood as her ninth and tenth of the season, tying her with Matson on the year.
Matson gained her team-high 12th assist during the contest and continues to lead the team in total points with 32. Maul is second on the team in assists with 10. Tiger goalkeeper Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) earned her sixth shutout of the season making seven saves. Alana Linick (Chelsea, Mass.) also made seven saves for Connecticut.
Princeton (11-3, 5-0 Ivy) has two more regular seson games remaining, and each are against Ivy League opponents. One win in either game will assure the Tigers their seventh consecutive Ivy Championship. The first obstacle in the way of attaining that goal is Cornell. Princeton will face the Big Red on the road Tuesday, October 31 at 4 p.m. The team returns home to Class of 1952 Stadium for their final regular season home game against Pennsylvania on Friday, November 3rd at 7 p.m.
