COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Princeton field hockey team played its final game of the 2000 season on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md. The game ended as the Tigers fell victim to host Maryland 3-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Cory Picketts (Marmora, N.J.) scored the only Tiger goal of the game with 5:10 remaining in the first half of play as she connected off of a corner play on a double-assist from seniors Hilary Matson (Marathon, N.Y.) and Bridget Marchesi (Spring Lake, N.J.).
Maryland wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Keli Smith found the back of the cage 57 seconds into the game. The Terrapins went on to score two more goals, the first coming at 18:33 as Dina Rizzo deflected a Caroline Walter's pass into the lower left side of the goal. Rachel Hiskins scored the remaining Maryland goal on a reverse stick sweep at 11:16 mark. The second half of play was a scoreless affair for both teams as Maryland maintained the 3-1 lead and took the eventual win. Tiger goalkeeper Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) was faced with 26 Maryland shots on the day and made 13 saves in the cage, nine in the second half.
