Notes of the Day We are the champions -- Princeton is 2000 co-champion of the Ivy League, along with Dartmouth.
Five More Notes No Media Person Should Be Without More champions -- Princeton's 2000 league championship is the first by the school since 1982, the first year of formal Ivy women's soccer.
Shack mommy -- Princeton women's soccer coach Julie Shackford is seven months pregnant with the first child for her and her husband Shane. Nice to be back -- Princeton is making its second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Tigers lost to Hartford 2-1 in the opening round of the 1999 tournament.
History lesson -- Princeton is making its fourth NCAA tournament appearance. Princeton previously played in the 1982, 1983 and 1999 tournaments.
More history -- Princeton is 1-3 all-time in the NCAA tournament. The Tigers defeated George Mason and lost to North Carolina in the 1982 tournament and lost to Boston College (1983) and Hartford (1999) in their other two NCAA first-round games.
Others receiving votes Oh say, can you see? -- Princeton freshman Theresa Sherry, the team's leading scorer, sang the national anthem before every Princeton home game.
Conference call -- Princeton has never played a Big 10 team in women's soccer. The Tigers did play current Big 10 member Penn State in 1980 and 1981, before the Nittany Lions were part of the league.
Don't mess with the Ivies -- Princeton is one of three Ivy League schools in the NCAA tournament, along with Hartford and Dartmouth.
The whammy -- Princeton's 13 wins are tied with the 1981 team for the second-most in the 21-year history of the program. The 1980 team has the record, with 14.
Tournament tested -- Senior Julie Shaner is appearing in her fifth NCAA tournament, twice with the women's soccer team and three times with the women's lacrosse team.
Woman for all seasons -- Julie Shaner, who has been a regional All-America in soccer, was a first-team All-America last year in women's lacrosse. Shaner helped Princeton to the Ivy League title and a spot in the NCAA championship game.
More seasons -- Julie Shaner has won three Ivy League championships at Princeton, one in soccer and two in lacrosse.
Still more seasons -- Princeton has three soccer players who are two-sport athletes: Julie Shaner and Alex Fiore also play lacrosse, and Lori Volker also plays softball. V
