Tigers Begin Indoor Season With Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J - The Princeton Tigers kicked off their indoor track and field season Sunday afternoon with the traditional New Year's Invitational in Jadwin Gym. The non-team scoring event hosted close to 500 athletes from 10 different schools. The men's team had four first place finishes while the women's team snagged one.
Princeton's freshman men had an outstanding meet. Frosh Josh McCaughey had a personal best performance in the 35 lb. weight throw. He won the event with a throw of 63 feet 8.75 inches and set a meet record, a freshman record and became and NCAA provisional qualifier. Freshmen Stephen Wiley won the high jump (6' 8"), Rocky Craley won the shot put (54' 4.5") and Marcus Ford-Bey won the triple jump (46' 8") for the Tigers. Senior Biren Roy placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:27.8 seconds.
On the women's side, Junior Lauren Simmons set a meet record with her win in the 500 meters (1:15.95). Becca Desman placed second in the high jump (5' 6.5") and Becky Haarlow was fourth (37' .5") in the triple jump. Hasina Outtz (18' 3.25") and Lauren Washychyn (17' 9.75") placed third and fourth in the long jump for Princeton. Emily Robinson was third in the 1,000 meters (3:04.15) and Khalila Thomas placed fourth (40' 11.75") and Betsy Kennedy was sixth (39' 11.5") in the shot put.
Princeton will return to action after the New Year on Jan. 12-13, 2001 when both teams compete in the Armory Invitational in New York City.
