Another Triple Crown Only One Win Away

HANOVER, N.H. - The Princeton men's track and field team won its third consecutive indoor Heptagonal championship this weekend and is now one championship shy of an unprecedented third consecutive triple crown. The Tigers had 121.33 points, beating second place Brown by 31 points.
Princeton claimed two individual titles yesterday and added four more today. Scott Denbo (Jr., Nashville, Tenn.) won the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 59' 3.5". Sophomore Paul Morrison (Chatham, Ont.) won the 3000 meters yesterday added the mile to his resume today. He also posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:05.69.
John Mack (Sr., New Haven, Mich.) won the 400 meters with a time of 47.87 and Mike Spence (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa.) wont he 5000 meters with a time of 14:24.76.
All three of Princeton's captains--Denbo, Mack and Spence--claimed titles this afternoon.
Freshman Javius Wynn (Mechanicsville, Va.) was third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.62. Princeton earned places two through four in the 800 meters to earn 18 points for the team. Finishing second was Ryan Smith (So., Morris Plains, N.J.) with a time of 1:54.00. Chris McFadden (Sr., Bensalem, Pa.) finished third with a time of 1:54.47 and Matt Notary (Sr., Bethlehem, Pa.) finished in 1:54.75.
The Tigers got a win from Jonathan Jessup (Sr., Bryan, Texas) yesterday with his win in the pole vault.
