PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior women's soccer player Susan Rea (Palo Alto, Calif.) has been named first-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America. Rea has a 3.98 grade-point average in chemical engineering with a certificate in engineering biology. This is the third year Rea has been honored by GTE/CoSIDA.
Rea, who started every soccer game in her four years at Princeton, led Tiger defenders with nine points in 1999 and helped Princeton to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1983.
As the 2000 British Marshall Scholar, Rea will spend the next two years in Great Britain working on her Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge. She was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and has been a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society since 1998. Rea was also a three-time Academic All-Ivy selection and named to the NSCAA Scholar Athlete East Region first team in 1999.
Beyond her academic achievements, the senior earned All-Ivy accolades in 1997 and 1999, and was named All-New Jersey in 1996 and 1997. She was a member of the Nike/Clemson Invitational all-tournament team in 1999.
Rea, who ran the Boston Marathon last Monday, is a student worker in Princeton's Office of Athletic Communications and Office of Vice President and Secretary.
