Penn Relays Strong Meet for Tigers

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Princeton University men's and women's track and field teams are participating in the 106th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Today's action was highlighted with a second place finish in the men's shot put championship by Scott Denbo (Jr., Nashville, Tenn.) with a mark of 18.24 meters. Dennis Norman (Jr., Marlton, N.J.) and Jeff Petrulis (Fr., West Lake, Ohio) also competed in the shot put, placing third and twelfth, respectively, in the eastern division. Norman finished the day in the discus with a throw of 50.12 meters, giving him a fifth place finish in the eastern division. On the running side, the distance medley relay of Tensai Asfaw, Martin Rawls-Meehan, Patrick Anglin, and Ryan Smith placed 13th with a time of 9:56.69. Both the 4x100 relay (Simbi, Schottel, Mack, Atkinson) and the 4x200 relay (Atkinson, Schottel, Elcock, Mack) qualified with times of 42.01 and 1:26.49, respectively, and will compete in the finals on Saturday.
In women's action, the distance medley relay of Natalie Deffenbaugh, Allison Brown, Lauren Simmons, and Holly Huffman had an eighth place finish with a time of 11:45.16. In the triple jump, Sharon Jordan (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed ninth in the eastern division with a distance of 11.70 meters, while Becky Haarlow (Jr. Hinsdale, Ill.) placed 21st with a jump of 11.05 meters .
The competition continues through Saturday evening.
