Ithaca, N.Y. - Princeton swept the final six matches in three games each to defeat Cornell 6-3 in the women's squash opener for both.
The Tigers were playing for the first time since the graduation of three-time national champion Julia Beaver and four-time All-America Meredeth Quick from the top two spots in the order. In their place, Princeton relied on a lineup that featured balance and depth.
Cornell's Olga Puigdemont-Sola, one of the favorites to take over from Beaver as individual champion at season's end, defeated Princeton freshman Tricia Gadsen 3-0 at No. 1. Cornell also won at No. 2 and No. 3, but the Big Red could not match Princeton's depth.
Francie Comey, a freshman, won at No. 4, while Courtenay Green, France McKay, Jen Shingleton, Helen Smith and Casey Degen all won their matches 3-0.
